A Call to Action for Public Schools

Dear Friend of Successful Schools in Action:

Quality public education is a cornerstone of our democracy.

For almost 200 years, we have counted on public schools to develop engaged citizens, train competent employees and inspire innovative thinkers.

Every day our schools open their doors to welcome and educate all of our children - all the while struggling with shrinking budgets, dwindling resources and students who need more support, not less.

Now more than ever, excellent public education must become the responsibility of all of us - and community-based organizations like Successful Schools in Action are leading the charge.

But we can't do it without you! Make a secure online donation HERE.

Successful Schools in Action is on a mission. For almost six years, SSIA has been quietly changing the paradigm of how neighborhood public schools work. Our model of cooperation and collaboration among schools; community and parent involvement; and efficient program delivery is innovative and groundbreaking - and getting results for our students.

Thanks to amazing volunteers and generous donors like you:

  • Hundreds of students, from elementary to high school, have benefited from individualized instruction with an SSIA tutor
  • Teachers across schools are working to align curriculum and expectations so that students are more likely to succeed as they advance through grade levels
  • Parents are meeting to share information and personal experiences about the transition from elementary to middle school, and middle school to high school
  • Art teachers across our cluster are working together to raise funds they will pool to purchase needed art supplies
  • Our neighborhood schools came together to present a unified response to the recent capacity crisis, resulting in a solution that supported each school community
  • Hundreds of students have gained self-confidence, developed their public speaking skills, and benefited from the academic rigor associated with participating in our Debate Program

Will you help with a gift to support our work?

A gift to SSIA will ensure that all students needing extra help will be matched with an SSIA tutor; that all students wanting to challenge and stretch themselves will have access to our Debate Program; that our popular Collaborative Conversations between parents, teachers and community members continue to result in innovative problem-solving; and that SSIA can continue to respond to the needs and requests of our six cluster school communities.

From President Obama to Seattle School Board Director Michael DeBell, we're hearing the call for more vigorous parent engagement and strong community support for public education. We ask a lot of our public schools - and in return public schools need our involvement and our support.

We're all in this together, and our young people need us. Our willingness to answer the call and support quality public education will ultimately have a profound impact on our nation's health, security and prosperity.

Please make a gift to SSIA and lend your support to our most critical public institution - our public schools.

Thank you very much for your consideration.

Sincerely,

Lisa Moore, PhD
Executive Director, SSIA

P.S. A gift to SSIA is a gift to all six public schools in Queen Anne and Magnolia - and to the 3000 students and families who count on them. Please be generous!
